Like so many others, I love the game of golf. I love watching it, playing it (half-decent at best), and following the excitement that only a birdie on 18 to force a playoff can deliver. Beyond that however, I also have a passion for data and analytics (It is my career). So naturally, I started thinking… what would happen if I tried to blend the two?
And that’s where Pin Seeker Analytics was born.
Now, It is important for me to recognize right from the start— I’m not here to drop some groundbreaking algorithm that guarantees you’ll pick the winner every week or predict every birdie made. Golf isn’t a game where that will every be possible, and if it was… well for one I would be retired early playing golf right now instead of typing this, and for two someone much smarter than me would have already been a billionaire from their work.
What I am trying to do is find a unique and entertaining way to track performance, uncover interesting trends, and give golf fans like you a different lens to view the game through. The idea is simple: take the stats we already know, apply some fresh perspective, and tell the story of the game with a bit of flair and a lot of charts.
And what better time to start than the greatest week in television… Masters Week?
All week, I’ll be posting daily content built around a custom scoring system I created that blends:
- Strokes Gained Stats
- Driving Stats
- Recent Tournament Performances (because confidence matters)
- The always-fun “who makes the most birdies”.
This week is about watching the greatest sporting event, enjoying the madness that is Augusta National, and maybe (just maybe) seeing if my crazy idea of looking at the tournament will add a little insight, or if I should just stick to letting the people on ESPN talk about it.
So whether you’re a golf junkie, a casual fan, or just here for what the hell is this — welcome. I’m glad you’re here. Let’s have some fun with it.
